Milligan College to Become Milligan University in 2020

Milligan College kicked off Homecoming weekend Friday by announcing it will change its name to Milligan University effective June 1, 2020. President Bill Greer and board of trustees chairman Ron Dove made the announcement after the fall board meeting. Jarvis to Direct Ministry Resource Center at Emmanuel (Plus News Briefs)

Emmanuel Receives NACC Archives (Plus News Briefs)

Megachurch Helping Asylum-Seekers (Plus News Briefs)

Compiled by Chris Moon Central Christian Church in Mesa, Ariz., is one of several nearby churches that have helped house nearly 5,000 asylum-seekers who have crossed the Mexican border into the United States since October. According to the Arizona Mirror, the megachurch has received five large groups of migrants released by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Lilly Grant to Help Launch Ministry Resource Center at Emmanuel (Plus News Briefs)

Milligan College’s Emmanuel Christian Seminary will establish a Ministry Resource Center thanks to a $999,863 grant from Lilly Endowment’s Thriving in Ministry initiative, which supports religious organizations as they create or strengthen programs that help pastors build relationships with more experienced ministers. The goal is for the experienced ministers to serve as mentors and guide their counterparts through key leadership challenges in congregational ministry. Ozark Switches to Full Week of Classes (Plus News Briefs)

Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Mo., has departed from a longstanding tradition of not holding classes on Monday. Starting this semester, the Bible college is holding classes five days per week. “As an OCC student, I learned a proverb, ‘Methods are many, principles are few. Methods always change, principles never do,’” Ozark President Matt Proctor said in a post on the OCC website. “For over 75 years, Ozark has stayed true to one unchanging mission—training men and women for Christian service—but our methods have often changed.” Proctor said 98 percent of Ozark’s students are involved in some kind of ministry.

By Chris Moon   5-Year-Old Signs Basketball National Letter of Intent Milligan College’s latest basketball recruit is young—very young. The Tennessee school last fall brought 5-year-old Eli Roberts to campus to sign a National Letter of Intent to play on the school’s basketball team. Eli, who was diagnosed with cancer at birth, is the son of a Milligan College graduate. “Eli signed a letter of intent, which means he’s part of our program,” said Milligan basketball coach Bill Robinson in a story published in the college’s alumni magazine. “It’s the coolest signing I’ve been a part of, that’s for sure.”

Dr. Eleanor A. Daniel, 77, of Urbana, IL, referred to in a recent CHRISTIAN STANDARD article as “The Queen of Deans” because of her service as academic dean at three seminaries, died on March 2, 2017. She was born Feb. 28, 1940, near Milton, IL, to Donald W. and Bernice (Hillig) Daniel. She spent more than 40 years ministering in churches, colleges, seminaries, and overseas.
