Gateway Christian Church in Saint Albans, W.Va., is not turning a blind eye to the drug problem in its community. The church purchased a home near its campus and converted it into a recovery house for men emerging from substance abuse addictions.

Chuck and Amy Emmert were presented the Dr. Doty Divine Servant Award on Aug. 29 as a part of the Commencement service for the 2020 graduates at Great Lakes Christian College, Lansing, Mich. The Emmerts started ministry in the local church in 1975 while attending GLCC and served the Memorial Church of Christ (Livonia, Mich.), Novesta Church of Christ (Cass City, Mich.), and the Duplain Church of Christ (St. Johns, Mich.). Chuck and Amy graduated in 1978 and 1977, respectively. The Emmerts will conclude their ministry with the Duplain Church of Christ on Dec. 31 and retire. The Divine Servant

Compiled by Jim Nieman and Chris Moon The International Conference On Missions shared some statistics from last month’s gathering in Kansas City, Mo., even as it makes plans for its next annual get-together in Indianapolis Nov. 19-22, 2020. The total attendance of about 8,500 during the Nov. 14-17 Kansas City gathering was on track with ICOM events of the recent past, while the Student ICOM—or SICOM—remained strong with 575 attending. There were 47 colleges and universities represented, along with 42 public decisions to enter missionary service. By Karl Schad After months of seeking God in prayer, we prepared to launch three worship services designed to better reach all the generations in our community. We would offer blended traditional, contemporary, and modern services on Sunday mornings, each designed with a specific demographic in mind. Every service would include elements handpicked to engage the generational diversity of our community as we identified the distinct needs of the different age groups and planned to meet them. Three service styles would allow our community to express their worship to God in the way that best connected them to the Lord.
