Lipscomb Launches Lanier Center for Archaeology (Plus News Briefs)

Two renowned archaeology scholars—Dr. Steven Ortiz and Dr. Tom Davis—have founded the Lanier Center for Archaeology at Lipscomb University in Nashville. In conjunction with this, Lipscomb will be adding its first PhD program. “The Lanier Center for Archaeology plans to offer a Doctor of Philosophy in Archaeology of the Ancient Near East and a Master of Arts in Archaeology and Biblical Studies beginning in January 2021,” Lipscomb announced via a release. “In addition, the center will feature archaeological research libraries, an extensive artifact study collection and a ceramic restoration lab. Christian College Graduation Notes, Leadership Transitions

Compiled by Jim Nieman Mother and daughter graduated on the same day at Milligan College on May 11. JoDee Dotson was one of eight inaugural graduates in Milligan’s new Doctor of Education program, while her daughter, Taylor, also crossed the stage that day and plans to return in the fall to pursue a master’s degree in occupational therapy. One of Milligan’s MBA graduates couldn’t attend commencement. Vanessa Botero was with the Milligan cycling team that was competing in the Division I Varsity Nationals in Augusta, Ga. But Milligan president Bill Greer hoofed down to Augusta, Ga., on May 12 to hand-deliver the diploma to Botero. (Oh, and Milligan finished second in the competition.)

Hillsboro Family Camp: A Favorite Week of Summer (Plus News Briefs)

Last week the editors of Christian Standard and The Lookout spent several days at the Hillsboro Family Camp in Hillsboro, Ohio. Family Camp is sponsored by Person to Person Ministries and led by executive director Kerry Allen. For 46 years (since 1972) Person to Person Ministries has organized this annual gathering of families for the purposes of instruction, edification, and fellowship. The camp provides programming for adults, teens, and children. Many families bring tents, campers, motor homes, and vans to Restoration Acres, a 158-acre campground owned by the ministry, to participate in Family Camp. This year there were 273 camping
