Bible Bowl — Organization Profile
Bible Bowl, formally connected with National Bible Bowl, is a Christian youth Bible quizzing program that helps students study Scripture through team-based competition. The organization describes Bible Bowl as a quick-recall program where students compete over their knowledge of Scripture from a selected book or books of the Bible each season. Teams study the same assigned text and compete by answering questions over specific portions of that text.
The ministry serves students in two main divisions: Beginner Bible Bowl for grades 3–5 and Teen Bible Bowl for grades 6–12. Bible Bowl lists its mailing address in Goldenrod, Florida, and its competitions and local leagues serve students, churches, Christian schools, homeschool groups, and families across the United States. Its FAQ notes that Bible Bowl’s leadership remains affiliated with Restoration Movement churches, while teams and participants are not required to belong to a specific denomination or fellowship.
Bible Bowl operates through local teams, local leagues, seasonal competitions, and optional national events. A team normally includes three to five players, with up to four players competing in a game at one time. Each team is guided by a sponsor, often a parent or adult leader, who helps students read, study, practice, and prepare for competitions. Local teams may meet in churches, Christian schools, homeschool co-ops, homes, or other suitable settings.
The organization runs two seasons each year. The fall season begins with the school year and includes local competitions from September through November, while the spring season begins after the holidays and includes local competitions from March through May. Optional national tournaments are held at the end of each season, with one typically in early December and another in June. Bible Bowl also provides resources such as official rules, study materials, score sheets, practice guidance, competition results, and online testing information.
Bible Bowl’s stated benefits include encouraging students to read the Bible consistently, developing study and memorization habits, building teamwork and sportsmanship, fostering mentoring relationships between students and sponsors, and connecting students with peers in other regions. The program also offers scholarship opportunities through Christian colleges at summer tournaments, and the National Bible Bowl test allows Teen Bible Bowl players at Nationals to pursue achievement recognition connected with participating universities.
People can engage with Bible Bowl by starting a team, joining an existing local group, registering players through the online account system, using Bible Bowl resources, attending local and national competitions, donating to National Bible Bowl, or supporting designated funds such as the General Fund, Missionary Student Scholarship Fund, and Memory Verse Challenge. New participants are directed to contact the organization for help locating a nearby team or starting a new group.
