Dummitt Named Senior Pastor of Willow Creek

By Jim Nieman David Dummitt, the founding and lead pastor of 2|42 Community Church in Michigan, has been named the new senior pastor of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois. “I’m so excited to become a part of the Willow family,” Dummitt said in a video posted by Willow Creek. “For the last 15 years my family and I have had the privilege of launching and leading 2|42 Community Church in southeast Michigan. And over these last few months we’ve sensed God leading us to come and be a part of what he’s doing in and through Willow.

2|42 Community Church Celebrates 15th Birthday, Opens 3 Campuses (Plus News Briefs)

The megachurch marked the 15th anniversary of its launch in 2005 in Brighton, Mich., by launching three new campuses in Livonia, Monroe, and Taylor, Mich. 2|42—which is consistently listed as one of the fastest-growing churches in America by Outreach magazine—now has seven campuses. The campus in Livonia came about in a unique way, as we reported last summer. The former Compass Christian Church in Livonia (previously known as Memorial Church of Christ) had played a significant role in helping start 2|42.

McGilvrey Retiring after Ministry with an Unexpected Twist

By Jim Nieman When Mark McGilvrey’s church provided seed money to help start 2|42 Community Church in 2005, he had no idea of the boomerang effect. 2|42 Brightens Region by Offering Arts, Sports, and Children”s Programming

By Jennifer Johnson On February 17, 2|42Â Community Church (Brighton, MI) opened its new community building, a renovated athletic club which includes space for children”s programming, new soccer fields and basketball courts, a cafÃ©, and more. On February 18, the church launched its School for the Arts. “We added one large studio and three smaller spaces for music, drama, and art classes,” says Rachel Dummitt, director of the school. “We started with private guitar, piano, drum, flute, cello, violin, and voice lessons, drama classes for kids, and visual art classes in portrait drawing and pastels.” Dummitt says about half of the

2|42 Community Church Buys Athletic Club

2|42 Community Church (Brighton, MI) recently announced its purchase of the Brighton Athletic Club and its plans to renovate the building as a multipurpose facility for the community. The new community center will include an indoor/outdoor cafe, gym, auditorium, meeting space, play areas for children, and space for music lessons, tutoring, and more for teens. “We want this to be a facility that extends beyond Sunday morning, reaching out beyond our regular church attendees,” says lead pastor Dave Dummitt. “This is our gift to the community we love and have served for over six years.
