Four schools aligned with Christian Churches and Churches of Christ have been awarded grants totaling almost $5 million from the Lilly Endowment’s Compelling Preaching Initiative. Among the schools each receiving more than $1.2 million were Point University, Johnson University, Milligan University, and Central Christian College of the Bible. . . .
All three of Central Christian College of the Bible’s locations will use the Russell School of Ministry name for the school’s growing graduate program. Until now, RSM—named for Bob and John Russell—had been used only at the school’s Cincinnati-area location. . . .

By Jim Nieman Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, Mo., resumed in-person classes Monday, two weeks after switching to virtual/remote learning due to a spike in COVID-19 cases that saw nearly half of its residential student population either test positive for the virus, isolate with symptoms, or quarantine due to exposure. “We’re down to two active cases—one student and one employee—with five [people] in quarantine,” college president David Fincher reported Monday. By Jim Nieman Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, Mo., has switched to online-only instruction for the next two weeks due to a spike in COVID-19 cases among residential students. The change in format will enable the school to reduce the risk of exposing more students to the virus. The school announced its decision Monday morning. The Christian Church Leadership Center is slated to open this fall in Northern Kentucky. The CCL Center will serve as the hub of ministry education and church support in the Greater Cincinnati area through the work of the Russell School of Ministry and the CCL Network. The center will also house a library that provides biblical, ministry, and historical resources for churches and Christian leaders. Plus, it will be home to the Christian Church Leadership Foundation. Mike now serves as executive minister with GCC and has been with the church for 50 years. Sharon, his wife, passed away in 2015. The couple met at Louisville Bible College in 1965, married the next year, and moved to Glendale in 1970, according to an article in the News-Enterprise. The longtime librarian at the now-closed Cincinnati Christian University has been tasked with preparing the school’s George Mark Elliott Library—all 150,000 print volumes as well as a large archival collection—for relocation. So far, Lloyd and some volunteers have filled 750 boxes with books. It’s likely to take 10,000 boxes to move it all. As a follow-up to our story last week that Cincinnati Christian University will be closing after the fall semester, CCU board of trustees president Chris Hahn posted a letter on behalf of his fellow trustees to “apologize for the situation we are in and for how our communication of the cessation of academic operations may have caused confusion and pain.” CCU is also now providing more resources for students at its website, including a section of responses to frequently asked questions. Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, MO) announced Oct. 8 that Dr. Ronald Oakes had resigned as the school’s president in a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Directors Oct. 4. According to the school’s website, board chairman Gene McCoy met with college staff Oct. 7 and said, “We have commended Dr. Oakes for his faithful service and dedication to a responsibility he did not seek in 2005, when we, upon faculty recommendations and with the assistance of faculty representatives on the presidential search team, asked him to serve the college as its president.
