Our “pulpit was empty.” In the jargon of our church that meant that our professional orator in residence had left us for greener pastures and we were on the prowl for another. Then we got this letter from some preacher fellow that wanted to come for two weeks and live with us and preach to us on three Sundays.
The longtime site of now-closed Cincinnati Christian University is changing hands. CCU’s 54-acre campus has been sold to IDEA Public Schools, a Texas company that operates 120 schools in Texas and Louisiana.

Mid-Atlantic Christian University, Elizabeth City, N.C., has signed a memorandum of understanding with Rwanda Challenge and Africa Hope Initiatives to offer an accredited associate degree in Bible and ministry to the people of Rwanda and other East African nations. A year ago, Rwanda Challenge director Frank Reynolds approached MACU and shared the need for such a degree. In 2023, Rwandan law will require all ministers to have an accredited associate degree in ministry. Through discussions, the three groups arrived at a solution for providing the necessary degree at an affordable cost. Students will take the majority of the courses online,

Chuck and Amy Emmert were presented the Dr. Doty Divine Servant Award on Aug. 29 as a part of the Commencement service for the 2020 graduates at Great Lakes Christian College, Lansing, Mich. The Emmerts started ministry in the local church in 1975 while attending GLCC and served the Memorial Church of Christ (Livonia, Mich.), Novesta Church of Christ (Cass City, Mich.), and the Duplain Church of Christ (St. Johns, Mich.). The Christian Village at Mason in Ohio held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for the new Stone Worship Center and Auditorium, named in honor of former Christian Standard editor Sam E. Stone and his late wife, Gwen. The worship center will replace the existing chapel as the primary building for Sunday worship services and also will provide a place for various events, banquets, concerts, and meetings for residents of the 85-acre senior living community located north of Cincinnati. The Christian Church Leadership Center is slated to open this fall in Northern Kentucky. The CCL Center will serve as the hub of ministry education and church support in the Greater Cincinnati area through the work of the Russell School of Ministry and the CCL Network. The center will also house a library that provides biblical, ministry, and historical resources for churches and Christian leaders. Plus, it will be home to the Christian Church Leadership Foundation.
