The problem with political religion should be obvious. Politicians make big promises but are bad saviors. Political parties make fanatical communities but bad churches. When politics become religion, Christian unity is poisoned and our more meaningful relationships die.

First Church of Christ in East Palestine, Ohio, is pitching in to help its community as the town continues to recover from a toxic train derailment earlier this month. The church on Tuesday began hosting a health assessment clinic for community members who are concerned their health was compromised by the catastrophe. (Originally posted Friday, March 6; updated Monday, March 9) Alive Nashville, a Stadia church plant that started last September, had been meeting on Sundays in a building that was “ground zero” for the tornado that struck East Nashville early Tuesday. Since the storm, the church has been working to serve one another and others in the neighborhood devastated by the tornado. In January, the Esquire/NBC News “American Rage Survey” reported that half of Americans are angrier than they were a year ago.
