Intentional Churches Conference 2026

Intentional Churches Conference 2026 is a two-day gathering for church leaders and teams focused on helping churches bring radical alignment to the Great Commission. The conference is designed to help leaders deepen their understanding and implementation of the ChurchOS leadership system through practical teaching, interactive tracks, and collaboration with other ministry leaders. Intentional Churches says attendees will leave with practical tools they can take back and implement in their churches.

UNITY: When Our ‘It’ Is Misplaced

By Nate Ross In the quarter mile before I arrive at our church’s campus, I pass a Nazarene church, a United Methodist church, a church of Christ (noninstrumental), and then turn into our campus about 500 yards later. Competition, co-laborers in Christ, or critic are the three most common thoughts that come from my heart when I see another church. (I know, that’s really mature for a pastor.) The lens in which I see another church leads to how I love another church. It’s quite easy to quickly judge and criticize neighboring churches that have different biblical interpretations from ours

Northside Celebrates 50th Birthday at KFC Yum! Center (Plus News Briefs)

Compiled by Chris Moon and Jim Nieman Northside Christian Church, New Albany, Ind., celebrated its 50th anniversary last Wednesday with a worship service at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky. Leading up to the event, Northside reported it would be “the first time in 20 years we will gather as a WHOLE church for a night of worship, celebration and advance commitment to the next step of generosity God is calling each of us toward!” Christian recording artist Michael W. Smith was a special surprise guest at the service. “It was an absolutely beautiful service and a wonderful surprise

Spire: What It Is, What It Isn’t . . . and Why

By Chris Moon New things inevitably generate questions. “What is it?” “Why this?” “Why now?” And “why not this other thing?” It’s been no different for the organizers of Spire Network, a digital platform that has set its sights on uniting and equipping pastors within the independent Christian churches and churches of Christ. The network has been working toward its first conference—set for October 8 to 10 in Orlando—and preparing to roll out its online networking platform this fall. In the middle of all of that, organizers are fielding questions about the nature of Spire and what it hopes to

Church Doubles Scripture Reading Goal (Plus News Briefs)

By Chris Moon Redemption Christian Church in Jasper, Ind., discovered a powerful way to spur its members to begin reading the Bible. On the final Sunday of 2017, senior minister Darrel Land challenged the church to read—as a group—at least 500,000 verses of the Bible during 2018. The church created an online form so that members could submit the number of verses they read each day, week, or month. (To provide context, there are 31,102 verses in the Bible: the Old Testament has 23,145 and the New Testament has 7,957, according to various online sources.) “Here’s the deal: If we

Serving Ice Cream to Serve the Community (plus News Briefs)

By Chris Moon Momentum Christian Church in Georgia has found that ice cream is a good way to reach the community. The church takes its ice cream truck into the community to serve various events and found it’s an easy way to meet and serve its neighbors. “It is a fun way for us to serve our community,” the church’s website says. “It is a great way for children to participate in transforming our families as well.” In March, for example, the ice cream truck was on site at a local Easter egg hunt that served special-needs children and their

SPOTLIGHT: Northside Christian Church, New Albany, Indiana

Former senior pastor George Ross and his son, Nate Ross, switch roles.   By Andy Rector In 1999, when George Ross arrived at Northside Christian Church in New Albany, Indiana, the congregation had been without a lead pastor for 14 months. During the interim, attendance had grown 12 percent. That fact impressed upon Ross that Northside was fertile soil. After spending more than a decade with the church, Ross was nearing retirement age, and he knew church leaders faced an important decision. What should Northside’s next step be? “Did Northside need something different from me?” Ross said. “I talked with

Harvey Recovery Efforts Are Ongoing

By Jim Nieman Dale Smith has been very pleased with the Hurricane Harvey flooding-related recovery efforts at Cy-Fair Christian Church, Houston, Texas. “It”s been very, very busy, but it is going fantastic,” the church”s interim lead pastor said. “There are challenges, but God is just showing his favor.” Smith cites some statistics: “157 people in the church have volunteered to help. We have 57 people out serving on 7 teams today.” Some teams are being organized to work evenings, as well. (The church averages 300 to 350 for weekend worship.) Smith said an out-of-state minister told him in recent days

Houston-area Churches Coping with Harvey Flooding

Also read “Creekside Fellowship Helping Shelter Storm Victims” and “Church Riding Out Storm in Katy, Texas.” ________ By Jim Nieman Tim Liston, senior pastor of New Hope Church, a multisite megachurch with four locations mainly south of Houston, posted a “Hurricane Harvey Devotional” Sunday based on Matthew 8. In it, Liston says, “The best place to be in a storm is with Jesus.” New Hope, like most churches in the Greater Houston area, were forced to cancel onsite services Sunday because of the storm that has dumped, in some places, more than 50 inches of rain since Friday. When we

How You Can Pave the Way for a New Generation of Leaders

By Lito Solorio What is your church doing to prepare the next generation for leadership in ministry? Several years ago I sat in a gathering of men from area churches and a similar question was floated. Several men offered their thoughts on the current culture and struggles plaguing the church. A gentleman with a walker slowly rose, cell phone in hand, and said, “The problem is we need to reach the kids through this! The kids are all about their cell phones and social media sites.” I very politely shared my disagreement with that thought. You see, I am a

Getting Ready for Easter: Northside Christian Church, Yorktown, VA

Focusing on Friday By Shawn Cartwright, worship arts pastor, Northside Christian Church, Yorktown, Virginia From my perspective, an investment in Good Friday needs as much attention as Easter worship services or special productions. After all, you don”t have the resurrection without the cross. There are two specific services we”ve done that have been especially meaningful for two churches I”ve served. The first is “Song Stories Victory.” The premise of a “Song Stories” event is emphasizing the stories that songs tell and the stories behind why they were written, as well as how their stories impact our lives. One year we
