A preacher’s wife and her acquaintance who left Hugoton, Kan., together on Saturday morning to pick up the second woman’s children haven’t been seen since. Phil and Marian Yakey had a hard time digesting the news about the closure of Lincoln Christian University. The couple have been connected to the college for nearly five decades. “There’s an element of shock in it,” Phil Yakey said. “We kind of always assumed the college would continue to grow and prosper.” . . .

Two weeks after announcing its upcoming closure, Lincoln Christian University is working out the details for its existing students and employees. LCU President Silas McCormick said he held an in-person meeting attended by 20 to 25 students at Lincoln’s campus. The students were “obviously sad and disappointed,” he said. But they were “incredibly gracious.” . . .

"The announcement by Earl C. Hargrove, minister at Lincoln, that a new preacher-training school would be opened there in September sent a thrill over the great crowd. . . ."

Tim Harlow is retiring at the end of this month after 33 years as senior pastor at Parkview Christian Church in Orland Park, Ill. Harlow led the suburban Chicago church as it grew from just 150 people in 1990 to well more than 8,000 at its pre-pandemic height. Harlow said retiring and moving away after so long in one place isn’t easy. . . .
