By Michael C. Mack Welcome to our “faith” issue! Our purpose is not unlike that of the Bible’s faith chapter, Hebrews 11. The articles in this issue are designed to illustrate what faith is through the examples of faithful people in our churches. Stories of faith, old and new, remind us to trust God even through pain, hardships, and loss; they can reassure or restore our faith amid challenges and doubts; encourage us toward bold, loving action; motivate us toward extreme forgiveness; and propel us to obey God even when it’s tough. As Christ followers, we need stories like these.
Wilkinson (Ind.) Church of Christ hosts a one-week camp for foster children each summer. The Royal Family KIDS camp exposes the kids to the story of Jesus Christ while showing the children unconditional love. . . .

By Rick Chromey More than three-quarters of a century ago, the Allied Forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. In one of history’s bloodiest battles, young men sacrificed life and limb to puncture and penetrate the great Nazi domination of Europe. As the blood flowed and soaked the beaches of Omaha and Utah, among others, a line was drawn in the sand that forever changed history. Ozark Christian College created a video marking the retirement of Dr. Terry Bowland after 30 years of service with the school. The ministry and New Testament professor will be remembered for many things, including his love for family, church, and teaching at OCC. Also briefs from around the country. . . .

South African Church of Christ Mission celebrated its centennial with a huge gala this year. Christians remembered those who began the work and honored their leaders from the past century. Michael and Caryl Stanley, missionaries whose family has worked in South Africa for 70 years, celebrated a full half-century of service and officially retired from the work.

Tom Blackeagle, who ministered with McKinley Church of Christ for a decade and with the Yakima Indian Reservation and surrounding area (in Washington state) for many decades, was killed in an auto accident in Toppenish, Wash., on Nov. 20. Mr. Blackeagle served as president of the National Missionary Convention—forerunner of ICOM—in 2002 in Wichita, Kan.
