Most of us take for granted many of the services and experiences we enjoy every week. We don’t know how our local TV station gathers the news. We can’t explain how cell phones work. We may not understand all the details that go into preparing an hour of worship or Sunday school.
It’s true for CHRISTIAN STANDARD too. You don’t really need to know how material gets to the pages of our magazine and Web site and e newsletter week after week.
But from time to time it seems right to tell you about the staff members who make the magazine happen. One of those times is when one of them leaves.
That happened February 28 when our news editor, Ruth Davis, retired after serving 14 years at Standard Publishing, the last nine of those with CHRISTIAN STANDARD. In that time many of you communicated with Ruth and found her always pleasant and thorough. We greatly appreciated her service with us.
Now you’ll be communicating with Jennifer Holder who replaces her on our staff. Jennifer is a graduate of Milligan College (1997) where she majored in English and humanities. In 1998 she came to Standard Publishing and has worked here since then as an editor, production manager, and product developer.
Her tasks will include processing all communication to CHRISTIAN STANDARD, making sure everything you send us gets to the right place. She will write all the news, proofread our copy, and contribute in many other ways to our weekly processes. At the same time she will serve as managing editor for all of Standard Publishing’s adult church resources, interfacing between editors and contributors and manufacturers, managing schedules, and watching budgets. We believe her diversity of experiences here equips her uniquely for the expanded role she will fill in this new job.
Meanwhile, Jim Nieman remains as CHRISTIAN STANDARD’s managing editor. Jim reads, edits, and proofreads every word of every issue several times. He creates the magazine’s pages, finds and processes art, communicates with contributors, updates our Web site, and serves as general watchdog over our schedule and accuracy. He’s been on our staff since 1998. In the more than three years I’ve been editor, I’ve come to appreciate and depend on him more and more and more.
